AI assistant bot
A program you talk to in everyday language that can also carry out tasks for you, like summarizing email or updating a sheet. Learn more
API
Short for Application Programming Interface: a set of rules that lets one program ask another for data or actions. Your bot sends a request, the service sends back a response. Learn more
API key
A long secret string a service gives you so your code can prove who it is. Treat it like a password: keep it out of chats and code files. Learn more
Approval card
A card that appears in chat asking you to allow or decline one specific action a bot wants to take. If it doesn't match what you asked for, decline. Learn more
Auto-review
A quick automatic safety check that runs before some bot actions. Most pass unnoticed; risky ones are blocked or sent to you as an approval card. Learn more
Bot's computer
A cloud computer with a browser that your bots use to visit websites and work with files. Your bots share the machine, and each one gets its own desktop and browser window. Learn more
Chatbot
A program built mainly for conversation: you type, it replies. Compare with a bot, which carries out tasks. Learn more
Connector
A link between Grok Bot and another app, like Gmail or Google Sheets, so your bot can read and act in that app directly instead of clicking through its website. Connected apps are available to all your bots. Learn more
Draft
A message the bot has written but not sent. You read it, edit it if needed, and decide whether it goes out. Learn more
Environment variable
A setting stored outside your code, often used to hold secrets like API keys so they never end up in a file you share. Learn more
Info pane
A side panel about one bot. Open it by clicking the bot's name in the chat header (or Cmd+Shift+I). It shows a live preview of the bot's computer and its routines. Learn more
JSON
A simple text format for data, made of names and values in curly braces. Most APIs send and receive JSON. Learn more
Memory
Lasting facts a bot keeps between tasks, like your preferences. Each bot has its own memory. Ask it to remember or forget something in plain words. Learn more
OAuth
A way to give an app access to your account by signing in on the service's own page and approving what it can do, without handing over your password. Learn more
Primary bot
Your main bot, pinned at the top of the sidebar. Give it any task and it can pass the work to the bot best suited for it. Learn more
Prompt injection
Hidden instructions in an email, web page or document that try to trick a bot into doing something you didn't ask for. A bot should treat that text as information, not orders. Learn more
Rate limit
A cap on how many requests a service accepts in a period of time. Go over it and you get an error (often HTTP 429) until you slow down. Learn more
Routine
A saved request a bot runs by itself, either on a schedule (like every weekday at 8 AM) or when something happens (like a new email arriving). Learn more
Skill
A saved how-to: the steps for a task you want done the same way every time. Skills are shared across your bots. Learn more
Vault
Where passwords and payment cards are kept, so they stay out of chat and memory. Learn more
Webhook
A message a service sends to your bot's web address the moment something happens, like a new order, so the bot doesn't have to keep checking. Learn more
