What is a connector and how to add one Beginner

A connector lets your bot work inside an app you already use, like Gmail or Google Sheets: reading, writing and taking actions for you. Here's what that means and how to add one.

What you'll learn

  • What a connector is, in plain words
  • How to find, add and sign in to one
  • How to check it works

Before you start

1. What a connector is

Think of a connector as a key you hand your bot for one app. Without it, your bot can only use that app's website through its own browser, like a person clicking around. With it, the bot gets a direct, more reliable way in. Cursor's docs call these "apps" and note they're more reliable than clicking through a website when one exists.

2. How to add one

  1. Click Connect apps in the Grok Bot sidebar. Or type something like "Connect my Google Calendar" and your bot can show a Connect card in the chat.
  2. Pick the app.
  3. Your browser opens the app's own sign-in page. Sign in and approve the access it asks for.
  4. Return to Grok Bot. The app is now connected.

3. Check it works

Ask a simple read-only question, like "List my next three calendar events." If it works, you're done.

4. Good to know

The rest of this section has one guide per popular app. For the bigger picture, see Quick Start Step 9.

Ideas to try

  • Weekday mornings.
Connect my Google Calendar and tell me what's on today.
  • Bills.
Connect Gmail, then find any bills that arrived this week.
  • Side hustle records.
Connect Google Sheets and add today's sales to my 'Sales' sheet.
  • Explore.

Tips

  • Connect only what you need for today's task.
  • Never paste passwords in the chat; sign in on the app's own page.
  • If an app has no connector, your bot may still use its website in its browser.
