Quick Start / Step 10

Step 10: Your bot's computer and browser Beginner

Your bots don't just chat. They can use a real computer in the cloud, with a browser, to visit websites, fill in pages and work with files. You can watch them work, and step in when they need you.

What you'll learn

  • What the bot's computer is
  • How to watch a bot work
  • When and how to take over
  • How to fix a misbehaving computer

1. A shared cloud computer, one desktop per bot

Grok Bot gives your bots a cloud computer. Your bots share that one machine, so files, installed tools and browser logins set up by one bot are there for the others. Each bot gets its own desktop and browser window on it, though, so two bots don't fight over the same screen. It keeps running when your laptop is closed.

2. Watch a bot work

  1. Open the bot's chat.
  2. Click the bot's name in the chat header (or press Cmd+Shift+I) to open its info pane.
  3. At the top you'll see a live preview of the bot's computer. Click it to open the full-screen view.

3. Take over when needed

Sometimes a step needs you, like a single sign-on page, a passkey, or a check only a person can do. The bot hands you the computer. Cursor's guide describes choosing Open computer, finishing that step yourself, and then returning control so the bot can carry on. You can watch and take over from the phone app too.

4. Logins stick around

When you or the bot sign in to a website, the session stays on the cloud computer for future tasks, so you don't need to sign in every time.

5. If the computer misbehaves

In Settings, the Computer tab has two recovery options (Step 4):

Ideas to try

  • Research.
Use your browser to compare three blenders under $100 and show sources.
  • Files.
Make a CSV of my monthly expenses from these notes.
  • Website check.
Open my shop's homepage and tell me if anything looks broken.

Tips

  • Watching a bot's first run on a new website is a great way to learn what it can do.
  • When you take over, finish only the step it needs, then hand control back.
  • The cloud computer is separate from your own laptop: its files aren't on your computer unless you copy them.
