Quick Start / Step 4

Step 4: A tour of Settings Beginner

Settings is where you control the app itself: your account, how it looks, your bot's computer, and updates. This step walks through each tab so you know what's there, and which buttons to leave alone unless something is broken.

What you'll learn

  • How to open Settings
  • What each tab is for
  • The difference between Update and Reset
  • Where per-bot settings live instead

1. Open Settings

Use any of these: click the account button at the bottom-left of the sidebar (your avatar and account name), press Cmd+, or choose "Open settings" in the command palette. There's no gear icon and no Preferences menu item for this.

2. The tabs

Settings has these tabs: General, Computer, Vault, Usage & Billing and Updates. Vault and Usage & Billing only appear when they're turned on for your account, so don't worry if you don't see them. Some rows only exist on some accounts or versions.

General

Your account card ("Sign In with Cursor" or "Sign Out"), appearance (Theme with Follow System, Light or Dark, plus Language), system controls such as spell-check, microphone and notification sounds, your time zone, agent defaults including Auto-review settings, and security keys.

Computer

Your registered computers and recovery tools for your bot's cloud computer:

Vault

Where saved logins and cards are kept, when it's enabled. See Step 14.

Usage & Billing

Your included and on-demand usage plus plan controls. BotDemoLab doesn't sell plans and won't recommend one.

Updates

Update Track (Stable or Nightly) and "Check for Updates". See Step 15.

3. Per-bot settings live elsewhere

A bot's name, title, description, avatar and notifications aren't in this window. Open them from the gear in that bot's info pane (Step 7).

To change the theme and accent color, or a bot's name and picture, see Step 8: Customize your bot.

Ideas to try

  • Time zone.
Check my time zone is set correctly for routines.
  • Notifications.
How do I change when you notify me?
  • Explain.
Explain each settings section in one line.

Tips

  • Set your time zone in General so scheduled routines run when you expect.
  • If your bot's computer misbehaves, use Update before Reset.
  • If you can't find a row mentioned here, your account or version may not have it.
