Quick Start / Step 15

Step 15: Keeping Grok Bot up to date Beginner

Grok Bot improves often. The app checks for updates automatically, but it helps to know where the update controls are, and that updating the app isn't the same as updating your bot's computer.

What you'll learn

  • How app updates work
  • Where Check for Updates and Update Track are
  • The difference between updating the app and the bot's computer

1. Automatic updates

The desktop app checks for updates automatically, so most of the time you don't need to do anything. Phone apps update through the App Store or Google Play like any other app.

2. Check manually

  1. Open Settings: click the account button at the bottom-left of the sidebar, press Cmd+, or use "Open settings" in the command palette.
  2. Go to the Updates tab.
  3. Choose "Check for Updates".

3. Update Track: Stable or Nightly

The Updates tab has an Update Track setting with two choices:

If you rely on Grok Bot for regular work, stay on Stable.

4. App updates vs. Update Bot's Computer

These are easy to mix up:

5. After an update

If something looks odd after updating, fully quit and reopen the app. That clears most problems. The official help center covers anything beyond that.

Ideas to try

  • What's new.
What changed in the app recently?
  • Update check.
Am I on the latest version?
  • Weekly.
Every Friday, tell me about new features I might use.

Tips

  • Stay on Stable unless you want to try features early.
  • Don't use Update Bot's Computer just to get new app features. It's for when the computer misbehaves.
  • Some rows may not appear on every account or version.
