Quick Start / Step 2

Step 2: Installing Grok Bot and signing in Beginner

With the installer downloaded, the next job is getting the app onto your computer and signing in. It takes a few minutes. There's no separate Grok Bot password to create: the app uses your Cursor account.

What you'll learn

  • How to install on Mac, Windows and Linux
  • How sign-in works
  • What happens right after your first sign-in
  • What to try if setup gets stuck

1. Install the app

Mac: open the downloaded disk image, drag Grok Bot to Applications, then open it. If macOS asks you to confirm, choose Open.

Windows: run the installer, then open Grok Bot from the Start menu.

Linux: install the .deb or .rpm with your package manager, or make the AppImage executable and run it. Then open Grok Bot from your app launcher.

2. Sign in with your Cursor account

On the welcome screen, choose Sign in. Your web browser opens so you can finish signing in, then you return to the app. Grok Bot uses your Cursor account; there's no separate Grok Bot login. If your company uses single sign-on, sign in the way you normally do at work.

3. Meet your first bot

After signing in, you click through a short intro. Grok Bot then sets up your first bot, named Grok Bot, and opens a chat with it. That's the bot you'll learn about in Step 5.

4. Signing in on your phone

Install the phone app and sign in with the same Cursor account. You'll see the same bots and conversations as on desktop.

5. If something doesn't work

Cursor's guide notes that most setup problems clear after you fully quit and reopen the app. If you're still stuck, the official Cursor help center has troubleshooting guides and a way to contact support.

Later on you can see or change which account you're signed in with from Settings, where the General tab has an account card with "Sign In with Cursor" or "Sign Out". Step 4 covers Settings.

Ideas to try

  • First launch.
Walk me through signing in for the first time.
  • Shared computer.
How do I sign out when I'm done?
  • Stuck.
I'm not seeing the sign-in screen; what should I check?

Tips

  • Grok Bot needs cloud data storage. Cursor's docs say accounts on the legacy Privacy Mode are asked to switch before starting.
  • Use the same account on every device so your bots follow you.
  • Fully quitting and reopening the app fixes most first-run glitches.

Facts about the app on this page come from Cursor's official Grok Bot documentation. Menus can change between versions; if something looks different, check the official docs.
