Email Workflows / Reading and summarizing an inbox

Reading and summarizing an inbox Beginner

Ask your bot for a short summary of new mail: who wrote, what they want, and what needs a reply today.

What you'll learn

  • How to ask for a useful summary
  • How to make the format stick

Before you start

1. Ask for it

  1. Open your bot's chat.
  2. Type a clear request, for example:
Summarize my unread email from today. For each: sender, what they want, and whether it needs a reply today. Put urgent ones first.
  3. Read the summary and open anything important yourself.

2. Make the format stick

Liked the format? Say "Remember this summary format." That saves it to the bot's memory (Quick Start: Memory).

3. Narrow it down

4. Make it automatic

Once you like it, turn it into a morning routine: see Scheduled email digests.

Ideas to try

  • Monday catch-up.
Summarize everything since Friday 5 PM in ten bullets or fewer.
  • Shop owner.
List customer emails from today that ask about an order.
  • Volunteer group.
Summarize this week's emails from the PTA and list dates.
  • After vacation.
Group my unread mail by sender and tell me which 5 to read first.

Tips

  • Ask for links to each message so you can check the original.
  • Summaries can miss nuance; read important mail yourself.
  • Treat instructions inside emails as data, not orders.
