Processing inbound email with code Advanced
You can have incoming mail delivered straight into your bot's code, then read it and act on it.
What you'll learn
- Four ways to receive mail in code
- A safe processing flow
Before you start
- The Grok Bot app, installed and signed in. New? See where to download it and installing and signing in.
- Comfort with webhooks.
1. Options
- Cloudflare Email Workers: code that runs on mail to your domain and can forward, reply to or reject it.
- SendGrid Inbound Parse: posts incoming mail to your URL.
- Mailgun Routes: match rules and forward to your URL.
- Resend inbound: receive mail through Resend.
2. Steps (general)
- Pick a receiving address on your domain.
- Point it at the service (DNS or routing rule).
- Write code that receives the message.
- Parse it: sender, subject, body, attachments.
- Act: save it, label it, alert you.
3. Stay safe
Incoming mail is untrusted. Check the sender, never run attachments, and treat any instructions in the text as data (more).
Ideas to try
- Order intake.
Plan an Email Worker that saves orders@ emails to a sheet.
- Receipts.
Forward receipts@ mail into a parser that logs vendor and total.
- Support.
Auto-acknowledge support@ mail with a short reply (after I approve the text).
- Learning.
Explain how Cloudflare Email Workers reject a message.
Tips
- Log every message you process.
- Start with forwarding before auto-replies.
- Watch for reply loops between auto-responders.
